CAE was established in 1999 as a specialized manufacturer of anilox rolls.
Its patented Black Pearl Coating technology, combining powder materials and a proprietary coating process, offers the following benefits:
1. Reduced porosity
2. Extended anilox roll lifespan
3. Superior surface polishing
4. Improved cleanability
Furthermore, CAE utilizes a fully automated robotic system that integrates ceramic spraying and Black Pearl coating, allowing for consistently precise cell engraving regardless of operator skill.
In addition, a special cell shape known as "eCell" enhances ink transfer efficiency and cleanability.
Features
- Black Pearl Coating
- Faster wear (the anilox roll surface wears down more quickly)
- Reduced durability leads to increased maintenance frequency
- Variation in ink volume causes color inconsistency and uneven print quality
- Increased brittleness leads to higher risk of cracking or chipping during handling
- Higher hardness results in increased manufacturing costs
- Higher maintenance costs due to difficult polishing and repair
- AN-s (Anilox Nano-scopic Shield)
- eCell
The Black Pearl Coating is a ceramic coating technology for anilox rolls that uses special powder materials and a proprietary coating process.
Ceramic anilox rolls produced with this technology offer the following advantages:
Reduced Micropore Formation
Ceramic anilox rolls produced by thermal spraying of powder materials tend to form micropores during the manufacturing process.
While the industry average porosity is between 1–1.5%, CAE's anilox rolls achieve a lower porosity of 0.5–1%.
This reduced porosity helps minimize ink clogging and improves ink flow characteristics.
Maintaining Optimal Surface Hardness
The optimal surface hardness (Vickers) for anilox rolls is said to be around 1000–1400.
If the surface hardness falls outside this range, the following issues may arise:
Problems When Surface Hardness is Too Low (Soft)
Problems When Surface Hardness is Too High
AN-S (Anilox Nano-scopic Shield) is a robot-controlled nano-coating technology that transforms anilox performance by improving protection, durability, and volume transfer capabilities.
This advanced process includes precision robotic thermal treatment to remove microscopic irregularities such as micropores and nanocracks formed during laser engraving.
As a result, mechanically stable cell structures and polished, smooth surfaces are achieved. A nanoscale protective layer (AN-S) is then applied, providing unmatched performance and durability.
Some may be concerned about degradation or damage to the protective coating caused by laser cleaning, but extensive performance testing has confirmed its reliability. Rest assured.
Invisible Protection
Protects cell structures from scoring (scratches), mechanical wear, and chemical corrosion while maintaining engraving accuracy.
Extended Anilox Roll Lifespan
Strengthens the ceramic surface and significantly suppresses wear and deterioration.
Easy Cleaning and Maintenance
Ultra-smooth and non-porous surfaces make cleaning easier, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
Improved Ink Release
Optimized cell structures enable even and effective ink release, improving stability especially during high-speed printing.
Stable Ink Transfer
Ink supply remains stable regardless of print speed fluctuations, significantly enhancing print quality and consistency.
Reduced Defects
Precisely formed cell structures minimize printing defects, consistently achieving high-quality output.
The cell design called "eCell" is based on a 60° honeycomb pattern.
This vertically elongated cell shape offers the following advantages due to its enlarged opening:
Improved Ink Transfer Rate
The wider opening improves ink transfer rate and ensures more stable ink volume transfer. It also enhances cleaning efficiency.
Increased Cell Volume or Line Count
Compared to traditional 60° honeycomb patterns, eCell allows for increased cell volume at the same line count.
Alternatively, for a roll with the same volume, the line count can be increased. This enables more stable solid printing or higher resolution compared to conventional products.
As a result, a single anilox roll can accommodate both high-resolution printing and solid fill printing.
Reduced Dot Gain
Since eCell allows for higher line counts while maintaining the same cell volume, the opening ratio between plate and anilox can be optimized.
This helps reduce issues like screen smudging or dot gain.
